Comings and Goings of Gerken Getaways

Ocho Rios, Jamaica

In September, Tim and I attended a travel convention in Jamaica. We learned a lot from our supplier partners and saw some amazing resorts in the Montego Bay and Ocho Rios areas. Despite popular beliefs, you are able to get off of the resort properties and explore the region. Many of the popular excursions depart from Ocho Rios. There is Zip-lining, climbing Dunn’s River Falls, Bike tours of the Blue Mountains and coffee plantations. As well as water-based activities, such as diving and snorkeling. There are resorts for families and multi-generational trips as well as singles and couples. The low season for the Caribbean is May – October, since there is always the possibility of rain or storms, but we enjoyed the sun along with the clouds, which gives you a good excuse for an afternoon nap.

In October, I departed with a group of 8 travelers to Ireland. We joined a tour group, but we made up over half the tour.

We saw some of the iconic sites, heard traditional Irish music and visited pubs through the southern half of the country.
